InspectionWare Release Build: Version 12.515.0 (64 bit)

Latest Release Notes

Build Note:

Renamed Weld Profile tasks Piece From DXF File Node and Piece From Overlay Annotation to Configure Piece From DXF File Node and Configure Piece From Overlay Annotation.

New Features:

(1) AOS Device.Hardware FMC N is now on by default and uses the unit's own FMC receive aperture; a beam set that Hardware FMC cannot acquire, such as one receiving on part of that aperture, is acquired multiplexed with a warning on its channel that says why.

(2) Added Save Hardware Setup File task to AOS Device, which reads every setting back from a unit and saves it as a vendor setup file.

(3) LLM Chat.Refresh Models is now also available for the Copilot and Ollama providers, to fetch the model list again.

(4) AOS Device.Hardware FMC N now acquires a beam set that receives on part of an Explorer's channels, such as channels 0 to 15 or every second element, instead of acquiring it multiplexed.

(5) Probe Configuration now provides PA Wedge, UT Wedge and TOFD reference pictures, which a Picture control in From Object mode can show by name, and which are listed in the Image Library under System, Reference Images.

(6) Added Add Image From Base64, Add SVG Image and Get Image As Base64 tasks to Image Repo, so a script or a remote caller can add an image without a file and read one back.

(7) Added Select From Cross Section.Define Point Count Using and Select From Cross Section.Point Spacing, so the points can be placed a fixed distance apart along the cross section instead of by count.

(8) Added Select From Cross Section.Get Point Position() task.

(9) Added UT Beam Set.Points For Beam property and task.

(10) Requests through Web Msg Router, ZMQ Msg Router, Named Pipe Msg Router and MCP Server no longer stop at a message box that nobody at the desktop can answer: the box is answered with its default button, its text comes back with the reply, and the web page shows it under the button that ran the task.

(11) An On Control Event with Execute On = Object Selected now adds a Connection Point with Usage = Selected Object, bound to the object the control reports as selected, such as the solid picked in a Part Tree.

(12) Part Tree and I3D Part Editor can now be connected to a Connection Point bound to a Part, so they can be used inside a package and follow whatever Part the package is given.

(13) Total Focuser.Optimize Ascan Lengths() now lowers the channel's sample rate when the digitizer cannot hold the required A-scan, as the MicroPulse cannot above 8184 samples for a matrix capture, never below Total Focuser.Min Samples Per Cycle, keeps 17 guard samples at each end, compiles the focuser first, and writes what it did to Total Focuser.Ascan Window Report.

(14) Added Duet.Set Legacy Byte From Version() task and unified legacy byte format handling.

(15) Added TFM Window Coverage, a node under the Total Focuser that shows, for each view, the share of every pixel's summation the captured A-scan holds and the earliest and latest round trips the pixel needs.

(16) Added Total Focuser.Max Coverage Loss, the share of a pixel's summation that Optimize Ascan Lengths may leave outside the A-scan to shorten it.

(17) Added Total Focuser.Adjust Sample Rate: when on, Optimize Ascan Lengths lowers the channel's sample rate, as far as Min Samples Per Cycle allows, when the digitizer cannot hold the required A-scan, and raises it back towards the rate you set when a later window allows; when off the task leaves the rate alone and fails with the shortfall.

(18) Total Focuser.Min Sample Rate replaces Min Samples Per Cycle: the lowest sample rate Adjust Sample Rate may set, in MHz like a digitizer's sample rate; 0, the default, keeps five samples per cycle of the probe frequency.

(19) Added support for SQLite database connections throughout the application. This includes a new CSQLiteConnection class with full property, task, and command support, integration into the object factory and tool explorer, and updates to allow Variables nodes to contain SQLite connections. Project and build files were updated to include winsqlite3.dll as a delay-loaded dependency, and new enum values, GUIDs, and property constants were introduced for SQLite. The new connection type is now available alongside existing ODBC and SQL Server options.

(20) Total Focuser.Optimize Ascan Lengths() now counts the A-scan the way the digitizer does and fails, naming the shortfall, when the digitizer will not take the window; the MicroPulse counts its 8184-sample matrix-capture limit at its base rate, so Adjust Sample Rate cannot lower the rate to fit there.

(21) Added DB Cascading Filter, a database node whose filter combos each offer only the values left by the filters above them and whose matching rows fill a connected Variables.

(22) The Query property of DB Query and Database Query now opens in the editor view with SQL highlighting, where the Execute task can be run directly from the editor.

(23) Added TFM Reflector Response, a node under the Total Focuser that models, for each view, how strongly a spherical or planar reflector at every pixel would image, with wedge transmission and backwall reflection coefficients, beam spread and attenuation, and how much of that the captured A-scan holds.

(24) Added Total Focuser.Max Window Loss, the loss in dB of a pixel's modelled reflector amplitude that Optimize Ascan Lengths may accept to shorten the A-scan.

(25) Documented the Variable Wall Thickness and Crop To Thickness properties of the Element Travel Time Map.

(26) Total Focuser Variable Wall Thickness now reconstructs a mode-converted leg, such as Longitudinal Shear, for the exact wall thickness measured on each plane while every output reads its travel time maps straight from the GPU, instead of using the nearest prepared thickness layer; the last few layers are kept on the GPU for thicknesses that recur.

(27) Total Focuser Variable Wall Thickness now reconstructs each same-mode skip leg from one direct travel time map read at the image-source fold of the pixel for the thickness measured on the plane, instead of one map layer per prepared thickness. The result is exact for any thickness in the range, one map is built instead of one per layer, and nothing interpolates between thickness layers; a mode-converted leg keeps its layers and uses the nearest one.

(28) Element Travel Time Map and Total Focuser now image a probe on the inside of a pipe, a Part Geometry of Pipe ID with Probe Orientation Circumferential, treating the bore as couplant and folding skip legs, including those of Variable Wall Thickness, outward about the pipe's centre.

(29) Added a "Copy Groups" task to Structured File for copying selected root groups to a new file.

(30) Added Configure Weld From DXF File Node and Configure Weld From Overlay Annotation.

(31) Added support for drawing .svg images.

(32) Importing an NDE file now successfully imports its Weld Regions.

(33) The installer now installs a probe catalogue database, probe_catalogue.sqlite, in the Resources folder of the installation.

(34) Ensured target folders are created before HDF5 file operations.

(35) Added Get Source Scan Position task to Remap Ascans With Rays 2.5D.

(36) Added Primitive.Get Surface Curve Script task for surface grid visualization.

(37) Added Grouped Controls.Padding, margins kept clear inside a stacked group's edges that the controls are laid out within and that Auto Size, Wrap and Size To Content allow for.

(38) A propsLayout applied to, or dropped on, a stacked Page now builds its rows straight onto the page, one Grouped Controls row per entry, and puts the layout in a Grouped Controls of its own only when it stacks the other way to the page.

Bug Fixes:

(1) Fixed Disable Branch never leaving its properties-reading state after a workspace load or a copy, so that copying onto it again asserted in Debug builds.

(2) Fixed a possible crash while loading a workspace in which a Get Properties node's connection points at a different object than when it was saved.

(3) Fixed AOS Device.Hardware FMC N receiving a full matrix capture on the wrong channels of the unit when the probe has an Element To Channel Offset or the beam set uses a pitch-catch catch probe.

(4) Fixed an AOS unit refusing its next connection until it was power cycled after a hardware FMC download failed, such as on firmware that keeps a fixed FMC receive aperture.

(5) Fixed Finger Print Should Be, Compare Fingerprints and the Test Finger Print task passing a JSON finger print test without comparing anything when none of the expected values were in the object's current finger print, for example after the finger print's value names changed; the test now fails and names a missing value.

(6) Fixed Finger Print Should Be, Compare Fingerprints, the Test Finger Print task and the Compare Finger Prints task of data nodes passing without comparing anything when the recorded and the current finger prints were both empty or null, when the recorded finger print held no values, or when a Command Line was given; the test now fails and says why.

(7) Fixed Load Data Files Test comparing finger prints with no tolerance and always including child data, whatever its Tolerance Allowed and Include Children were set to.

(8) Configure From Digitizer and Configure Probe Tree on a Part now repaint the Simulator Displays once when they finish instead of several times for each probe, which made them take tens of seconds over a remote desktop connection.

(9) Rebuilding a probe, such as through a Part's setProbeTree after a Wedge Angle edit, no longer recompiles every part of the Simulation and repaints the Simulator Displays a second time when the new probe is first drawn.

(10) Fixed InspectionWare not responding for minutes while it loaded or showed a workspace with an LLM Chat set to Ollama when no Ollama server was running: LLM Chat no longer repeats a failed fetch of the model list each time the Model property is refreshed, and neither do its Anthropic and Copilot providers.

(11) Fixed InspectionWare not responding for up to half a minute when the model provider of an LLM Chat, such as an Ollama Base URL on another computer, could not be reached: LLM Chat now fetches the choices of its Model property in the background and updates the property list when they arrive.

(12) Fixed double-clicking a User Interface's caption running its On Maximize event twice when the event's sequence sets On Control Event.Consumed Event to false.

(13) Fixed the close, minimize and maximize caption buttons doing nothing on a User Interface shown by a Child Display Button or a dialog when it holds an On Close, On Minimize or On Maximize On Control Event; the window now closes, minimizes or maximizes after the event runs unless its sequence sets On Control Event.Consumed Event to true.

(14) Fixed Finger Print Should Be, Compare Fingerprints, the Test Finger Print task and the Compare Finger Prints task of data nodes failing when the recorded and the current finger print were the same empty or null value, such as when testing that a control's text was cleared; they pass again when the object has that finger print type, still fail for a type it does not have, and Finger Print Should Be can record such a value again.

(15) Fixed Workspace Archive.Checked Out By Me reading false, and the workspace not being recognised as checked out, when the computer name was recorded in a different letter case than the computer now reports.

(16) Fixed an AOS Waveform Channel's first Hardware FMC download after opening InspectionWare failing with "could not enable Hardware FMC" when the setup had more cycles than the unit held from its previous setup.

(17) Fixed an Image Repo arriving without its pictures when its package was broadcast to another instance, copied through the Windows clipboard, exported to an XML file or sent over Rpc.

(18) Fixed Layout Repo.Record Layout() dropping Read Only from an editor a layout had made read only, so the editor came back editable the next time the layout was applied.

(19) Fixed the I3D Part Editor not repainting after a primitive was added to its Part until the simulation was next compiled.

(20) Fixed C Sharp Compiler failing with error CS2012 when the folder it compiles its dll into, such as the Asms folder beside InspectionWare, did not exist yet.

(21) Fixed a C Sharp Compiler with a missing source file failing to compile with an internal exception; it now reports which source file was not found.

(22) Fixed a Motion Axis with a Data Source Encoder logging "Trying to execute while compiling" while the digitizer it reads, such as a Custom Digitizer, was compiling its C Sharp Compiler.

(23) Fixed a possible crash when clicking a Check Box or Radio Button whose property change or On Control Event hides or removes that control.

(24) Fixed a possible crash, seen as a vector iterator fault in Diagnostic Messages, when a message was logged from another thread while a Diagnostics Log started or stopped logging or a workspace was loading or closing.

(25) Fixed the Color and All finger prints of Excel Report and OpenXML Report ignoring colours set by Format Conditions; they now read each cell's displayed colour.

(26) Fixed the Format and Formula finger print types of Excel Report and OpenXML Report returning an error instead of a finger print; they now give the displayed number formats of the sampled cells and the formulas of those that hold one, and All includes both.

(27) Fixed Part Follower.Refresh() reporting success when it had left Axis 1 Position and Axis 2 Position as they were, which happens while the probe's position cannot be read back, such as before its wedge has found its exit point.

(28) Fixed a Data Plot drawing an A-scan vertically after it had shown an output whose plotting preferences set an Orientation without naming a plot type, for example after Data Plot.Next Subset() or Data Plot.Previous Subset(), and after reopening a workspace saved while such an output was shown.

(29) Fixed setting Data Plot.Plot Type switching straight back to the plot type named in the data's plotting preferences, and the chosen plot being given preferences written for another plot type.

(30) Fixed a Data Plot with Data Plot.Auto Set Plot Type turned on drawing an A-scan vertically after Data Plot.Next Subset() or Data Plot.Previous Subset() moved it from an output whose plotting preferences set an Orientation without naming a plot type.

(31) Fixed a Label used as a Data Plot's cursor readout showing the previous plot's readout after the Data Plot switched to another plot type, until the mouse next moved over the plot.

(32) Fixed a Total Focuser with Variable Wall Thickness drawing an output whose transmit and receive legs are both mode-converted, such as Longitudinal Shear, one map step out of place when another output has a skip leg.

(33) Fixed a processor whose reference data requirement dropped to zero, such as a Total Focuser with Variable Wall Thickness turned off again, failing every execution with "Reference data [0

(34) Fixed a Total Focuser on a Pipe OD with Probe Orientation Circumferential giving an image that was unknown almost everywhere with a contact probe, and folding its skip legs about a pipe placed beside the probe instead of under it.

(35) Fixed a Total Focuser whose Probe Configuration has a Probe Orientation of Scan Axis or Circumferential mirroring its image about the probe, which left the image blank when X Axis Relative To moves the probe away from it, such as Front Face of Wedge with a wedge.

(36) Fixed a pitch-catch Total Focuser on a pipe with Probe Orientation Circumferential imaging each probe on a pipe of its own, which blurred and displaced the image and made Variable Wall Thickness disagree with a fixed thickness; both probes now sit on one pipe at their positions along its surface.

(37) Fixed a Total Focuser with Variable Wall Thickness imaging a skip view blank for a plane wave sweep, or as if it had no skips when it does not read its travel time maps straight from the GPU.

(38) Fixed a Total Focuser or Element Travel Time Map with a wedge probe on a pipe with Probe Orientation Circumferential timing deep and skip-leg pixels at the lateral edges of the map, and every pixel of a probe placed more than a quarter turn round the pipe, through the wrong point on the pipe surface.

(39) Fixed TFM Reflector Response showing a reflector response in the wedge above the part surface and a dip on the surface row, and Total Focuser.Max Window Loss keeping the early round trips of those pixels, which left the optimized A-scan starting about 4 us earlier than needed. Both maps are now undefined on and above the part surface.

(40) Fixed the Direction map of an Element Travel Time Map with a wedge probe on a plate, which Total Focuser.Apply Directional Filtering and TFM Reflector Response read, holding a meaningless direction (often 0 degrees) at map points exactly on the part surface; those points now hold the direction of the refracted ray just below the surface.

(41) Fixed MicroPulse Waveform Channel not counting a negative Synchro Echo Mode Delay against the A-scan limit when Echo Trigger Mode is Summed Waveform, which let a matrix capture A-scan be cut short without an error.

(42) Fixed MicroPulse matrix capture A-scans longer than 8000 samples losing their last samples without an error. The MicroPulse Waveform Channel now refuses such a window, and Total Focuser.Optimize Ascan Lengths() fits windows to 8000 samples instead of 8184.

(43) Fixed a crash when changing a UT Beam Set's beams, for example with UT Beam Set.Single Beam Pitch Catch(), while an enabled Butterworth Filter was processing that channel's data.

(44) With two or more digitizers of the same type, the Acquisition Manager's Add menu and a digitizer's Replace With menu now show each one's device name and use the device chosen, instead of listing them under one name and always taking the first.

(45) Fixed plots showing the wrong extent for a processor output that passes its source data through, such as a Data Fusion 2D with no reference enabled, after the source's dimensions changed.

Overview

This document contains a downloadable Windows installer for InspectionWare as well as the release notes covering the current version.

Software requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 or 11. The latest Windows updates must be installed.
  • InspectionWare 12 ships as a 64-bit application. 32-bit builds are produced only occasionally.
  • .NET Framework 4.8 or later is required. If it is not already installed, click here to download and install it.

Hardware requirements
  • CPU: A processor supporting the AVX2 instruction set is required. This includes 2013-or-later Intel processors and 2015-or-later AMD processors. (List of supported CPUs.) InspectionWare will not install or run on a CPU without AVX2.
  • GPU (optional, for accelerated processing): InspectionWare provides two GPU acceleration backends:
    • DirectX — any GPU supporting DirectX 11 (feature level 11_0) or later, from AMD, Intel, or NVIDIA. A CPU-based software fallback (WARP) is also available when no compatible GPU is present.
    • CUDA — an NVIDIA GPU with architecture ≥ Turing (e.g. RTX 2060, Quadro RTX, T4) and NVIDIA driver ≥ 576.02. NVIDIA GPUs older than Turing (e.g. Pascal / GTX 10-series) are not supported by the CUDA backend.
